Doing 117

We started a new project last week and part of the Sprint 0 activities were to create an overall project LOE based on the Epics the client had established. We did typical SCRUM scoring and came up with something like 585 story points. Then, the product owner divided that score by the 5 planned sprints and declared our team velocity would be 117 points per sprint.

Do you know why I pulled you over?

We'd never seen velocity calculated in a predictive manner before. It would be like saying it's 585 miles from Nashville to Jacksonville, we have 5 hours to get there so we SHALL go 117 miles per hour -- the Georgia State Patrol might see things differently!
